JW Associates served as the lead contractor for an environmental assessment (EA) for establishing road material sources for Coconino and Kaibab National Forests in Arizona for the next 20 years. Brad Piehl was the project manager and watershed/soils lead. Jessica Wald was the public involvement lead, writer/editor and air quality specialist. John Baas was the socio-economics, recreation and visuals lead, and Laura Scotford was the vegetation lead.

Project Actions

  • Facilitation of scoping (including meetings)

  • Development and refinement of the proposed actions, issues & alternatives

  • Drafting and revising of 8 specialist reports, including the Biological Evaluation/Biological Evaluation Assessment

  • Drafting and revisions of the final Environmental Assessment

Benefits

  • Permit 32 rock pits for use by both national forests

  • Establish direction for reclamation of abandoned rock pits

  • Reduce long-term costs of road building and maintenance by providing rock sources throughout two national forests
